Welcome to Penelope's Portmanteau where you can escape from the throwaway world of fast fashion, that is here today and gone tomorrow, and choose instead the timeless elegance of a quality made, vintage item. As well looking effortlessly chic and sophisticated you will not only be care-taking the past, but investing in the planet’s future by avoiding duplicating the detrimental effects associated with the manufacture and distribution of mass produced jewellery and accessories.
We currently have two high street shops - Brighton and Eastbourne - with more coming soon, which stock a gorgeous range of divine vintage costume jewellery and a fabulous selection of vintage handbags with over 200 hundred different styles in stock. We are unique, and well known, for stocking a sublime collection of vintage mesh and chainmail handbags including Whiting & Davis, Glomesh and Oroton. We also sell other lovely things such as vintage furs - coats, stoles & jackets and vintage compacts.
Fashion styles come and go - but vintage items have an appeal that goes beyond making a mere fashion statement - who could fail to admire Grace Kelly in a simple string of pearls, Audrey Hepburn in a diamante tiara or Jackie O in her trademark sunglasses? High fashion in their day, yes, but never fast and throwaway, and now forever timeless sophistication.
Our range of vintage items come from carefully selected sources and include pieces that range in date from antique to fairly modern. We don’t sell mass produced items from factories that exploit low paid workers on starvation wages because we care about the things we sell and the people who work for us. And we don’t clock up thousands of miles in buying stock so that we can keep our business carbon footprint low. So now you can indulge both your vintage senses and your conscience at Penelope’s Portmanteau.
Every listing on our site contains a full description and every purchase of jewellery comes in its own, brand new box (unless it is still in its original box/packaging as stated in the listing description), is gift wrapped - for free - and is securely packaged for transit.
